Class Experience

😻 Welcome to Cat Tales, a creative writing class specifically for cat lovers! Your cat will be the main character in your own short story. 😻

We'll put your cat in all sorts of situations, and you'll write the story to bring it to life. You'll have the basic plot, but the details are all up to you. Each week will have a different prompt chosen at random, but your cat(s) will always be the star. Come back the following week for a new story idea.

Here's how it works...

Step One: Meet the Cats! 😸

Of course we have to start things off by meeting your cats! So if you want to share your cat(s) with us, please do. They are more than welcome to join us. Can you join if you don’t have a cat? Absolutely! As long as you’re a fan of cats, you’re welcome here.

Step Two: Brainstorm Ideas! 🤔💭

Think of some fun situations for your cat to be in. We’ll put all your ideas in a wheel. Some of my recent favorites:

🐈‍⬛Cat can transform into different creatures! 🦄
🌮Cat owns a taco truck & runs out of tacos! 🙀
💻Cat starts a YouTube channel! 🐾

Step Three: Time to Write! ✍️ 📓

We’ll spin the wheel to choose our topic, and away we go! If all goes well, we'll have about 25 minutes to write a story. If you don't like the topic or you're finding it hard to write about, feel free to write about something else. I'm sure your cat won't mind.

Step Four: Share (if you want to!) 😺📖

At the end of class, you'll have the opportunity to share your story--but only if you want to share! OR you can post your story in the classroom to share it that way. Post some cat pics in there as well!

Optional:
If you send me your story after class, I will put it in a template with a photo of your cat too, so you can have an official copy of what you've written that you can print at home. You can see what this looks like at the end of the class video posted above. With a new story every week, you'll soon have your own short story collection.

Any questions? Please ask! Hope to see you soon. -Lauren & Mocha 🐾

Aside from absolutely loving cats, I used to be a middle and high school English teacher in the public school system, where I taught many lessons on creative writing. I've also been teaching creative writing classes since 2020 here on Outschool. Learners enjoy the writing club feel of a small group, my sense of humor (I think?), and the laid back atmosphere of my classes.
And some of them end up staying for years. Literally.
