Beginner - Intermediate Level
This class is intended for students interested in learning more about how the mind of a cartoonist works. And draw cartoons! Visit with Cartoonist/Writer Raymond Mullikin, the creator of various Raytoons comic books and children's books, such as "Quackup" and "Raytoons Cartoon Avenue". He will show students how to create their own cartoon characters, working in a humorous "Sunday funnies" style. Students will discover the basic drawing techniques that make up a cartoon, including the different types of eyes, noses, ears, mouths, etc. They will be able to draw humorous, simplified faces and figures, cartoon animals, and more. Students will also get a digital comic book created by the cartoonist. No background experience is required, but helpful. This is a LIVE class and is NOT pre-recorded. This class will be presented via cameras from the instructor. He will have one camera at his face and another will be at the table where he is drawing, so that the student can see the instructor as speaks, and be able to observe step-by-step what the instructor is doing. Students can interact with the instructor, as well ask ask questions during instruction. No writing or independent reading is necessary. Students are expected to communicate with the teacher. Communication, visuals, and hands-on instruction are all the things that I are important in helping the students get a better understanding of the subject.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to create an expressive abstract composition (cartoon) based on real world objects.Students will learn how to exaggerate emotional expression through their cartoon designs.

Imagination Exercises for Creating Your Own Cartoon Characters
✔️ Students will learn about Droodles (Imagination Exercises).
✔️ Direct Instruction: Students will follow along with the teacher as he turns some random Scribbles/Droodles in cartoon characters.
✔️ First Drawing Practice: Students will create their own characters from Droodles, with assistance from the instructor.
✔️ Students will then try a bigger challenge of turning letters and words into cartoon characters. 50 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Imagination Exercises with Letters and Words
✔️ Direct Instruction: Students will follow along as the instructor turns words and names into pictures.
✔️ Second Drawing Practice: Students will create their own characters from words, including their own names, with assistance from the instructor.
✔️ Students will take one of their Droodle characters and develop more into their own special character. 50 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Parts of a Cartoon - Eyes, Noses, Ears, Mouths, Etc.
✔️ Students will learn about the different types of cartoon body part shapes (eyes, noses, ears, mouths, etc) involved in creating a cartoon character. (Students can contribute to the cartoon parts list as well.)
✔️ Direct Instruction: Students will follow along with the teacher as he draws different cartoons characters from these random shapes.
✔️ Drawing Practice: Students will create their own characters, using different types of cartoon body part shapes w/ assistance from the instructor. 50 mins online live lesson
Lesson 4:
Parts of a Cartoon - Body, Hands, Feet
✔️ Students will learn the different ways to draw a cartoon body.
✔️ Direct Instruction: Students will follow along with the teacher as he draws different cartoons characters from these random body parts.
✔️ Students experiment with different head shapes, from the most common cartoon head shapes to the most outlandish ones, for creating a character. Some characters even have body parts (like eyes and mouths) that are integrated into the head shape. 50 mins online live lesson
