2 live meetings
1 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. If students do not finish outlining their drawing by the end of session one then they should spend some time outside of class finishing it before session two.Class Experience
In this 2 session digital art class, learners will use the Procreate app on their iPads to create a cartoon self portrait. Learners do not need to have any knowledge of Procreate, but they will need to have the app downloaded and available to use. Please note that Procreate is only available for Apple devices. A stylus is not required, but it is helpful to have one. Session one: We will start with introductions and a quick orientation in Procreate. Then we'll import the photo to use as the basis of our cartoon. We'll learn how to make a custom color palette and pull the colors for our project. We'll also edit some brush settings and then get to work on our clothing and skin layers. Session two: We'll explore more brushes and finish the project by adding hair, facial features, and a background. If we have time, we can also add some shading.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to create a new project in Procreate, how to import a photo, how to work with layers, and how to adjust brush settings.

Teacher expertise and credentials
California Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi! I'm Mrs. Huey and I teach elementary and middle school aged kids how to draw and animate on iPads using the Procreate app. These classes are a fun, safe place to foster creativity, showcase artistic expression, and let learners be their most authentic selves.
In my classes, we gather together to explore the far reaches of our imaginations. Whether drawing an under-the-sea waterscape, animating a prehistoric sauropod, or taking creative license with a hand drawn selfie, everyone's ideas and personalities are welcomed.
I've been working as an elementary school teacher in private, public, and charter schools in Northern California since 2009. Prior to that, I earned a B.A. in communication with a minor in environmental science and spent some time working in the public relations industry.
When I'm not teaching, I split my free time among many different interests! I like to run, hike, travel, take nature photos, play guitar, read, write, and practice yoga.
