Classroom Structure: I established The Inclusive Art Studio to have an online art community where young artists connect, grow their social skills, and share their love of art. Students will learn from each other by talking about our art, learning how to give encouraging and informative feedback, and creating a positive student environment. Students Help Direct Class Content: In my thirteen years of teaching, I have found the best way to get kids excited about art is to make sure they have a say in the direction of the class. On the first day of class, I discuss with students what they want to learn in class and guide my lessons based on their answers. Students can use their own inspiration to direct the subject, style, and available mediums for their final piece of artwork. Classroom Experience: Art Camp is a place to have fun and be creative! This class will allow your child to expand and grow their artistic skills and knowledge. I like making class a place where kids feel comfortable and everyone is part of the art studio. To provide this experience, I like to start the beginning of each class, posting the class schedule and the main objectives of the lesson. We will start with a short icebreaker so students get acquainted and we create a positive community. Next, I jump-start each new concept I am teaching by introducing students to the work of past and present artists that have inspired the lesson. The class will alternate between teaching, discussion, making art, and individualized instruction. Communication Policy: My sole purpose in teaching any art class is for your child to have fun, find their strengths, feel good about themselves and make great art! Let's work together to make that happen. Please communicate with me anytime about your child's experiences so I can best support them. How Does Your Child Learn Best? I know how important it is to meet the child where they are and to make accommodations. You know your child best. How can I best teach your child? Please email and let me know so I can meet their needs. Video Policy: To create a great artist community, we need to be able to see the art everyone is making and see each other to communicate effectively so students will leave the video cameras on during my class. I will be offering optional time for students to shut off their video and keep the audio on during studio time when students are making art in class. *During this time, I will be checking in with students to see their progress and how they are doing which will require them to briefly turn on their video.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to create unique cartoon and Anime and Manga characters.

PRANG Watercolor Set with a brush (either 8-color or 16-colors) https://www.dickblick.com/items/prang-washable-watercolor-pans-oval-set-of-8-colors-pans 7. Blick Art Store or Strathmore 300 brand watercolor paper 12 sheets brand 12"x15" https://www.dickblick.com/products/strathmore-300-series-tapebound-watercolor-pads 8. Crayola thin markers (set of 8) https://www.dickblick.com/products/crayola-fine-line-markers 9. Recycled water container: I use an old, cleaned-out yogurt container (quart size) 10. Paper towel 11. Smock or old shirt to put over good clothes if you have to wear good clothes. Please wear old clothes and a smock during class. A cheap plastic tablecloth is a great option when we use different mediums. I strongly suggest not having your child do art where there is carpet if this is possible so if they spill or drop something they won't be stressed and have a big clean-up during class. If you only have carpet, I would strongly suggest getting a painting drop cloth to protect your carpet. The ideal space for art class virtually is a well-lit location, with no carpet, and a hard surface.
