In this 4 week class we will be learning all about maps. We will end our unit by becoming cartographers and making our own maps. Class 1 will be an introduction to maps. Each learner will be asked to bring a paper map to class. These can be any types of maps you may have (city or country map, nature trail, zoo or amusement park...) If you do not have a map at home, one may be printed from the internet. We will look at learners' maps to begin our map study. We will talk about the...
After class 3, learners will need to draw their map for homework to share during class 4. Their map should probably take less than an hour to complete- it depends on the learner's creativity and how much time they would like to spend decorating/coloring their map.
Class 1--Map (any type of map you have around the house or a map printed from the internet), a printable graphic organizer that will be sent after enrollment, pen or pencil Class 3-- Printable graphic organizer, pen or pencil, paper for drawing their map (computer paper, construction paper, poster board--whatever your learner prefers), markers, crayons or colored pencils Class 4-- Learners will need to bring their completed maps to class to share.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
