Carpenter ants, hammerhead sharks, saw fish, axolotls, and mandrills! In this class we will explore the biology of our construction-themed animals through an interactive and fun experience. Our construction zone needs a carpenter and some tools! Learners will help me gather these items by visiting our "builder" friends and asking for help. As we visit all of our animal friends and collect a carpenter, hammer, saw, ax, and drill we will learn about each of the animals' biology. Class will be interactive with plenty of opportunities for learners to provide input and ask questions. Learners will end class with a better understanding of the biology of a variety of animals, expanded scientific vocabulary, and fun facts to share. Hard hats and construction costumes/tools optional, but encouraged!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone! My name is Andrea and I've been teaching at the university level for over 10 years. I have a PhD in Biology, which allows me to share my passion for nature in the classroom. I've been fortunate to conduct research all over the world and experience amazing habitats, animals, and plants firsthand (Costa Rica, South Africa, Galapagos, and more!). My most recent adventure has been becoming a mom, and sharing my passion for biology with my kids. My science classes are interactive and fun (My kids wouldn't have it any other way!). I engage my students by connecting what they see in their daily lives (movies, TV, books, holidays, etc.) to the magnificent creatures that exist in our world. My goal is for kids to find out how amazing the natural world is!
