During the session students will paint a simple painting on canvas. This is a step-by-step painting process. I will demonstrate the ways of applying paint on the surface with brushes and knives. The canvas allows us to use paint with different textures, while paper is mostly flat due to its surface strength. Painting on canvas allows adding layers as many as needed without damages on the surface as it may happen on paper when we press down hard. Using a thick acrylic paint that will cover the canvas texture gives more strength of the painting itself. The other benefit of painting on canvas is easy to store the art works because paper is gentle and maybe damaged easily. This is why acrylic paints remain a popular choice among beginners: acrylics dry quickly, which makes corrections much easier to do. Correcting with still-wet paint will definitely spread out the colors, which might make an even bigger mess. Once kids are happy with their painting, let the canvas dry completely. When this is done, it’s best to use an acrylic paint varnish to seal in the final artwork. Doing this will preserve the colors and keep the finished painting from fading. Week One - Drawing the composition with pencil and practicing Week Two - Painting with brushes and knives
