Class Experience

In this class I will show students how to create their own printable Valentine's Day cards using the website Canva. Students will learn how to find and edit templates, search for stock photos and graphics, change fonts, and create an overall design that is unique to their own preferences and interests.

This is a fun and creative class where I will guide them through the functions, but allow them to choose their own artistic design. There will be lots of freedom of choice when it comes to the pictures and graphics they use, fonts, colors, and overall aesthetic of their own personalized Valentine's Day cards that they can then print at home.

The skills learned in this class can be applied to future Canva designs, including creating their own presentations, decorative letters, storybooks, fliers, school projects, and more!

Learning Goals

Students may or may not finish their designs in class, in which case they can continue to work on them afterwards or create new projects. They are welcome to upload their final designs to the classroom after class has finished, as I'm sure all of the students would love to share what they have created!

Parental Guidance
We will be using the Canva website to create our unique designs. Canva does require an account and parental consent - you can sign up for a free account prior to class.
Supply List
Although there are lots of stock photos and graphics to choose from, if the student wishes to use any of their own photos - their pets, photos with friends, etc. - to create their calendar, please have the photos ready and available to upload to Canva. You can do this by saving them in an easily identifiable folder on the desktop. This will NOT share photos with myself or anyone in the classroom, although it is optional to upload their completed project to the Outschool classroom after class. Using personal photos is NOT a requirement, and there are a lot of great graphics available through Canva!

Hello! My name is Miss Janette. I have been working with kids for over 10 years in many capacities. I have held positions as a preschool teacher, kindergarten teacher, ESL teacher, tutor, and online tutor/teacher. I was also the director of three preschools, where I was responsible for curriculum development, planning activities, and leading teachers. I have taught a range of ages in addition to preschool and kindergarten.

I graduated with a BA in Sociology, and have since traveled the world learning about other countries and cultures. I love to inspire young learners to explore the world virtually in a fun and creative way. This is why I have created my travel adventure series for kindergarten and elementary level students. In these classes the students get to travel to amazing places around the world, learn about geography and culture, animals and landscapes, history, and famous landmarks. Join the adventures today!
