30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this interactive ongoing class, learners will have the opportunity to explore, create, and receive teacher support and coaching for a variety of design options in the Canva graphic design program. Canva has become an essential program for designing professional-looking presentations, posters, logos, greeting cards, short videos, infographics, and more! This club will build learner proficiency in graphic design skills including effective arrangement of text, images, lines, and shapes; and choosing fonts, colors, photos, and clip art that suit the style and purpose of a design. During each class session, learners will have the opportunity to work on a Canva task/project from a choice board provided by the teacher. (Some of these activities can be completed in one class session, while others might require time over a few weeks.) These projects/tasks will guide learners through exploring important features of the Canva program in context, and allow them to showcase their personal interests. Week 1 / Topic 1: POSTERS & INFOGRAPHICS 1st Week of the Month Week 2 / Topic 2: PRESENTATIONS & VIDEO - 2nd Week of the Month Week 3 / Topic 3: GREETING CARDS - 3rd Week of the Month Week 4 / Topic 4: LOGOS - 4th Week of the Month Learners are encouraged to freely explore the various options in the Canva menu when creating projects during class and figure out how the options can be used in their designs. The teacher serves as a coach and guide for learners by demonstrating various design techniques and menu options, troubleshooting learner projects, and helping learners develop ideas through questions and conversation. Time will also be provided at the end of each class session for learners to share their work with classmates, if they wish. **WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS?: - Students with previous Canva design experience who want to develop their skills and learn more about graphic design - Students with no Canva experience (or very little) who want to learn the basics and continue designing each week **REQUIRED SKILLS: - Able to use a computer mouse/trackpad and type on a keyboard comfortably - Able to write complete sentences fluently - Able to toggle between tabs and windows on their computer and open links from the Zoom chat and/or Outschool classroom **TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS: - A laptop or desktop computer is REQUIRED for this class.
