Beginner Level
In this one-time course, we will take inspiration from the world of Minecraft to learn some Canva basics while also strengthening our spatial reasoning skills. This class is a great option to try out my classes and teaching style before taking one of my recurring classes or clubs! In this class we will be learning beginner Canva skills by creating a grid-based pattern of the iconic Minecraft creeper face. We will also learn how this pattern can be used for SO many different fun projects, including examples I've created myself. The following beginner Canva skills will be covered: - starting a project from a file - navigating your canvas - using and manipulating a shape element - coloring a shape element - duplicating, manipulating, and grouping multiple elements - naming and saving your project - downloading your finished project I will guide students step-by-step using screen share and student input, explaining how to use the Canva tools and think about the spatial reasoning elements as we go, but confident students are always welcome to work ahead at their own pace. At the end of this course students should: - have attempted and practiced the listed Canva skills - feel more comfortable with their spatial reasoning skills - have a Minecraft creeper face pattern to use in multiple (to be discussed) ways - be able to make a block-based mosaic-type image using Canva Neurodivergent students are always welcome and are encouraged to move, interact, and adapt as best supports their needs. Students who catch on more quickly will be welcome to test out other elements and/or adapt their pattern in a personalized way. My classes are always welcoming for all learners, as fun and respectful interaction is encouraged. Even as I take students step-by-step through Canva skills, I encourage each student to work at their own pace and ask questions as needed. Kids often surprise us with their intuitive use of technology, so I also encourage 'playing around' on their own and figuring out how to 'fix' what might go wrong together. Crafters, Minecraft lovers, artists, and those itching to learn a fun new technology tool will enjoy this course. Students will need to have a CANVA account (free is fine!) before the first class, but no other supplies are necessary.
