Canva Bootcamp (Flex): Graphic Design With Images, Animated GIF, and Video

Class Experience
Do you want to create stunning digital art or eye-catching graphics? In this class, we will use the free online tool called Canva to create amazing designs. We will discuss the aspects and uses of graphic design. We will explore different features of Canva including templates, images, backgrounds, and fonts to create designs. We will create incredible images, animated GIFs, and very cool videos! In addition to Canva, we will also be using Nearpod to learn the material. Each week will include a video lesson as well as an activity for students to complete on Nearpod such as a game, a collaborative board, or a short quiz. Each class, we will also use the Outschool platform to share designs through a classroom discussion thread where students will be encouraged to make positive comments about each other's work. Here is the schedule for this course: Day 1- Images part 1. We will begin by discuss graphic design. Next, we will start navigating the features of the app to create a party invitation. Day 2- Images part 2. We will build on our skills from the previous lesson. Our challenge for this week is creating a poster. Day 3- Animated GIFs. We will go deeper with our Canva journey by creating an images with movement, aka a GIF! Day 4- Video. Our final project will be enhancing video with frames, music, trimming, and added animations. There are no live meetings for this flex class.

Parental Guidance
This class requires the use of the FREE online program, Canva. In order to create an account, you must be age 13 and up. Please visit canva.com to create an account with your child prior to our first class. You do not need to pay for Canva Pro. We will use the free version.
We will also use a website called Nearpod, but a student account is not required to complete the lesson.
Supply List
A device to run Nearpod and Canva. Optional: two devices, one to run Nearpod and one to run Canva. It is preferable to use Canva in a web browser like Chrome rather an app for mobile devices. Create an account at canva.com (free version).

I volunteered with children in the community for 5 years and have taught in the classroom for 5 years Preschool-8th grade), and have been teaching in the online classroom for 2 years! I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (2014) and a Master’s degree in Technology Enhanced Teaching (2018).
I love learning and teaching! My favorite topics are graphic design and science. Authentic learning is my favorite mode of education.
