Class Experience

We were going for a fun field trip but something went wrong.  This session is perfect for young learners who love pretend play and escape room.

Learning Goal:
To enhance learners’ Cantonese oral skills for expression of thoughts 
認識字詞 Vocabulary: 部首日Chinese radical “sun”

*Cantonese Level: Intermediate
*Best learning experience for: Learners generally understand spoken Cantonese, but tend to respond in English
*Language use in class: We will mostly speak in Cantonese, with minimal support in English

Structure of the class:
1)Pictograph escape game play
* Some movement may be involved

Each group of students plays at different speeds, so it is possible that we may take a few extra minutes to finish the game or play a quick activity if we finish the game early.

-Play dough

Please note:
1/ Materials: We will use be using Boomcards and Traditional Cantonese as teaching materials.  Supply list will be sent out upon registration.

2/ As per outschool safety policy adults are not allowed to be on camera; Only registered student can be on camera.  Thanks for your understanding.

Hello! My name is Becca.

I am a mom, a social worker, and a multi-award-winning author (of ‘The Story of Us’). I am passionate about supporting children in our proud heritage language, Cantonese.

Here, you can find my personal and educational background, as well as an overview of my fun classes.

My ultimate goal is to promote fun learning. I keep my classes very small so that full attention can be given to each learner.

I was born and grew up in Hong Kong. I am a native Cantonese speaker.  I was lucky that my recent publication, a Cantonese-English-Jyutping Journal book has won in the Non-Fiction Young Adult category at the Independent Publisher Book (IPPY) Awards and in the Children’s Activity Books category at the National Indie Excellence Awards (NIEA).

I am a mother to my beautiful nine-year-old daughter, and we live in Canada. I know how challenging it is to encourage little ones to speak Cantonese, especially if Cantonese is the minority spoken language where you live. It adds an extra layer of complexity if you are not a native speaker or if only one parent speaks Cantonese.
