This course is designed from my popular summer camp titled "Can You Survive: The Oregon Trail Summer Camp". This course will use some of the scenarios as my summer camp but, we will incorporate more journal time as well as ensure each student works on their mural (drawing) assignments. The Oregon Trail was 2,170 miles long and is considered the longest graveyard in North America. Students will be given the opportunity to purchase the supplies necessary and begin their trip across the trail beginning in the year 1848; the trip will be grueling. The course is designed to engage students while they learn historical facts, practice math, negotiation, problem-solving, and life skills while they brainstorm ways to survive this brutal trip. Each day students will be given a number of miles that will need to traveled while enduring weather, diseases, wild animals, and so much more; a travel journal will be kept and a 3D map will also be created and presented on the last day of class. Throughout this course students will venture across Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. This class will be taught through worksheets, journaling, PowerPoint, crafts, and possibly video/audio clips depending on the days events.
Learning Goals
This course is designed to teach students about the Oregon Trail while having fun.
