Class Experience

During this 8-lesson class, learners will learn how to write each letter of the American English alphabet, both capital, and lowercase. We will work on shape, size, and spacing. We will then go on to use those letters in words. Each lesson will include a demonstration as well as time to practice. Students will be required to spend time between classes practicing what they have learned to help them form the letters correctly. The main focus of this class will be the mechanics of printing letters. Each student will be encouraged to submit their work for more individualized feedback regarding their handwriting in order to help them improve their writing.
In this class, we will start with the basics of how to form each letter, both upper and lower case. Then, we will practice letter formation in isolation before moving on to writing words and sentences. This will help the learners focus on the individual strokes and get a feel for the movement of cursive writing. Proper spacing is important in cursive writing, so we will also work on creating proper spacing between each letter in words and between words in sentences. Once the learners are comfortable with writing each letter, they will begin forming words. This will help them understand how cursive writing flows from letter to letter. We will conclude the class by writing Pangram sentences. Pangram sentences are sentences that contain every letter of the alphabet and are a great way to practice cursive writing. By practicing writing Pangram sentences, the learners will become more comfortable with the flow and movement of cursive writing.

The class will follow the following format:
Greetings
Getting to know each other/Tell me one great thing about your week
Demonstration of the letters we are working on
Practice time
Feedback time
Revision time
Students will be encouraged to talk about what went well with their writing.
My teaching style is informal. I will do a demonstration of how to form each of the letters we are working on for the week. Then, I will ask students to share their work as they practice so that feedback can be given.
Students will get to interact with me as well as with other students throughout the lesson.
***The students should be able to write in print before beginning this class.
