In this class, we will be reading some spooky stories from Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books. Favorites such as "The Green Ribbon," "Sam's New Pet," and "The Clown Statue," will be read by the teacher and students who volunteer. We will make predictions while we read and discuss what contributes to the tone, atmosphere, mood, and plot development. We will practice intonation strategies and learn how effects (i.e. dramatic pauses, changes in intonation, etc.) contribute to feelings of suspense. Questions will be answered orally and students will practice key English Language Arts skills. Schedule: 1. Welcome and intro to this week's featured creature from different lore (ex. chupacabra) 2. Read a story and discuss 3. Read a second story and discuss Note: ****Some descriptions and images may be frightening to younger or sensitive students. I am a English teacher in a public school. I love spooky stories and find that many students do as well. These books were a favorite of mine growing up and I cannot wait to share them with other students!
