Class Experience

Build confidence for summer camping live from a beautiful remote setting with this session!
We will learn about building a tent or shelter, how to safely and quickly build a fire (demo only) and how to stay comfortable in the elements:

Tent basics: pegs, poles, and fly

Fire basics: tinder pyramid, air flow, and safety.

Elemental Survival: building a make-to shelter and responding to possible inclement weather

Appreciating Nature: campsite walk through and possible bird/animal sightings.

I have several sites where I camp each summer that have good reliable data. Much of my summer is spent in a tent and I often camp for a week at a time. Lots of skills I have built apply to many situations and I often bring first-timers along when I camp.

Learning Goals

Students will build confidence to camp more often or camp more rugged places by learning basics.
Students will demonstrate camp readiness verbally or through hands-on skills.
Students will observe and appreciate natural settings.

This class includes an element of fire lighting skills. This will be explained as a demo and hands-on replication will not be encouraged but could be undertaken with adult supervision based on your comfort level. Communicate if you wish to be involved. No fires should be lit without parental supervision and the right safety tools in place.
Supply List
Any camping tools you might have will be explored and discussed. It isn’t mandatory to bring your own supplies but the class will cover general camping tool use.
