Welcome to the Wizard World Book Club! In this 4 day class, we will meet four times for 30 minutes, to discuss all things in the School of Witchcraftery and Wizardry from the iconic and magical FIRST BOOK! Each day students will come together to SUMMARIZE a chapter and discuss different aspects of the book. Please ensure students have read the appropriate chapter for the class. We will focus on characters, costumes, magic, wands and spells! This interactive class will involve a lot of reading and discussion. It will be necessary for the student to have a copy of the novel and have the chapters read before class. This is an open class with the discussion mostly being led by the students with very pointed questions asked by the teacher to guide them in their learning. We will discuss themes such as: friendship through adversity, strength from within, leadership and what it takes to be a leader, all themes and idea from the chapter. Overview: 1. Introductions 2. Cast of characters 3. Who is the villain? What makes a villain? 4. Costumes 5. Setting 6. Character back story 7. Optional endings 8. Compare and contrast other movies 9. Write a poem about a character 10. Draw your favorite character 11. How has the character changed? 12. Summarizing the movie 13. Fun Quiz DAY 1: We will discuss characters, background, magic and strengths! The focus will be on choices. Please have Chapter 1 read and/or reviewed for class. DAY 2: All about the heroes friends. We will discuss their characters, background and magic! Please have Chapter 6 read and/or reviewed for class. DAY 3: The Schools and secondary characters and of course all the teachers! Please have Chapter 8 read and/or reviewed for class. DAY 4: TRIVIA DAY! We will discuss favorite parts of the book and how the characters have changed from the beginning. Please have Chapter 17 read and/or reviewed for class. Wear your costumes and come test your knowledge!
Learning Goals
This class is centered around ANALYZING the novel, discussion and sharing views, opinions of the specified Chapters assigned. In a fun and interactive way, students will learn about character traits, what makes a protagonist or antagonist, discussing how the characters have evolved throughout the book, what their motivation is, and what makes a good, watch worthy character.
This class will be open and supportive of students who are shy, anxious or have difficulty expressing ideas.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
The novels and movies to contain images and topics such as Dark Lords, magic, and harming children that may be sensitive to some learners. Parental discretion is advised.
Supply List
Students will need to have access to Book One of the series. A one or two page handout will be given to the students one day before class. The handout will be different every day.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
