Good readers read and good writers write! This course is designed to allow students multiple opportunities to write in a fun and engaging way. It will be an interactive writing experience as learners are invited to jump start ideas for their peers, share feedback and even contribute to collaborative writing exercises. Sessions will include quickwrites, guided instruction, writing challenges or games. We will follow an I-Do, We-Do, You-Do model as learners are directed to complete various writing exercises. Class sections will begin with a quickwrite warm up where students will have 5 minutes to write about a topic or in a certain style. This will be followed by guided teacher instruction based on our skill of the day. During guided instruction we will write collaboratively based on the skill or topic of the day. Students will have time to practice on their own during independent writing time. This will be followed by a sharing circle where students are encourage to share their writing to receive feedback from their peers. Our time together will end with a writing challenge or game. Daily topics and themes are as follows: Mystery Monday- Bring a mystery item like a toy, game or even an old sock. We will practice descriptive writing. Title Tuesday- Bring a book. We will explore ways to start stories and sentences. Who’s There Wednesday?- Wear a hat or your favorite headpiece. We will practice writing about characters. Thing Thursday- Bring a household item to camp. It could be a spoon, bottle of shampoo, a pillow, anything you can find at home works. We will get creative with our persuasive writing. Food Friday- Bring a food item. We will explore different elements of telling a creative story.
