Beginner Level
MIT's block based coding platform Scratch helps young learners develop a deep understanding of the logics and critical thinking for coding. In this class students will explore the platform in a gradual manner , with project on each day and slowly gain confidence. As they proceed through the projects they will learn to use various aspects of animation and game designing as well as extensions. Parents please ensure that students have an account created on scratch before they start with this class in order to help them save their project. Project 1 : Animate your name In this project , students learn how to choose a sprite , add colour, sound and backdrop. They will learn about the platform the stage, and the scripting area. Project 2 : Imagine a World Students get to upload their own sprite or draw it using paint. They will be able to create a world for their sprite and use the green flag for programming sequence. They use motion blocks and repeat loops Project 3 : Animate a Character- Move it move it Students learn how to move their sprites on x and y axis and use events for making the character talk Project 4 : Dance Party Students learn how to record sounds, create a rhythm and use different musical instruments . They can even create a dance party Project 5 : Story time Students learn how to code multiple characters , copy codes and make the characters hide and show. They are able to change backdrops , change characteristics on click event and make their characters have a conversation Project 6 : Make a Chase Game 2 classes Students learn how to make sprite move using arrow keys and add objects and obstacles in the chase game. The teacher will guide the students on how to switch tabs or screens to work on one system, but if the students wish they can have 2 devices, one for the class login (mobile) and the other for the programming (laptop).
