Class experience

US Grade 2 - 3
The goal of this class is for learners to learn strategies to help them comprehend reading passages better and to use those strategies to be able to correctly answer questions about different types of passages. Another goal is to improve reading fluency as needed.
Over the years I have loved helping children and teens from 2 years old to 19 improve their speech, language, auditory, phonics, reading fluency and comprehension, brain fitness skills and much more. I meet my students where they are at their level. As I teach, I adjust to help reluctant learners as well as others who may need or want more challenge. I have decades of experience teaching each of these types of learners within the same class. I try to make my classes engaging and fun. I have a wide range of experience that includes teaching those on the autism spectrum, learning disabled students, add/adhd and many more areas of concern, as well as, experience teaching regular and gifted learners. I have found that patient encouragement in a structured and energetic yet relaxed classroom environment helps learners brains focus to receive information better and helps them become detail oriented.
Homework Offered
The teacher will screen share the reading passage and helpful hints/strategies during class then post copies of them and optional practice questions as attachments in the classroom asap after class.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Informal observation throughout class and the option to have practice worksheets checked for accuracy and receive feedback.
Grades Offered
This class is designed to support all learners including those with ADHD / ADD, Dyslexia, ASD and others. Class size is kept very small so the teacher can help meet needs of each learner.
I will screen share the reading passage during class. Learners should have a pencil with an eraser or erasable pen and a sheet of paper in case it is needed for notes or to write answer choices to help with comprehension. Usually shortly after class ends, but at least within 12-24 hours after the last day of camp, learners will have the option to download and print out the reading passage(s) from the classroom as well as a practice sheet and helpful hints we discussed in class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
