Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I'm really looking forward to meeting your learner.
While I hold a bachelor's degree in education, a master's degree in Ed-Tech Leadership, and a few more certifications, my 31 years in education speak more to my love of learning, my love for children and young adults, and my love of the magic of teaching.
I teach a variety of English language arts classes, particularly for ages 12-18+ . Teaching English language arts the last 17 years of my teaching career has kept me relevant to the newest methodologies and pedagogy in this content area. I have several published articles in state and local journals for the teaching of English language arts, including authoring a chapter in a book published by NCTE.
My initial background as an elementary educator paved the way for me to be unique in my teaching style with middle school and high school students. Rather than focusing only on the content, I strongly believe in engaging the heart before engaging the mind. Within this philosophy comes a firm belief in allowing students voice and choice in their learning. I see myself as the "Head Learner" guiding students as we all learn.
I love to collect words, particularly those that are whimsical. When I'm not collecting words, you might find me capturing photos of West Texas sunrises and sunsets. I live on a small ranch with three dogs: Max, the Great Pyrenees; Bella, the German Shepherd; and, last but, well, she is the least, Heidi, our mini-dachshund. We also have two cats: Siam and Paw Prince. Our menagerie also includes chickens and horses!
I'm delighted to meet the learner(s) in your family!
