Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this 2-day class, we will be learning how to write a GREAT paragraph. Each students will be expected to write a paragraph on their own, but I will model what they need to do. On the first day, each learner will brainstorm what to write about. Then each will come up with the bare bones of a good paragraph - topic sentence, 3 details, conclusion. On the second day, we will take that "good" paragraph, and turn it into a "great" one through revisions - by adding a grabber, switching out boring verbs for more vibrant ones, and adding descriptive adjectives and adverbs.
Learning Goals
Students will learn paragraph organization. But more important than that, they will see the importance of putting in a little extra effort and improving on their first draft through varying their sentences, choosing vivid verbs, and adding descriptive adjectives and adverbs.

Hello, my name is Jan Bergesen, but the kids at school call me Ms. B. I've been an elementary school teacher for 35 years. Through the years, I have successfully developed a variety of unique ways of teaching things many children find difficult. Whether it's multiplication facts, math word problems, how to draw a person, how to write a paragraph or essay, learning to do ventriloquism, or even how to juggle, there's nothing I like more than watching learning happen. Did you notice the juggling in that list? I was a national award winning professional clown for 15 years and can share from those experiences as well. With that kind of a background, you know I like to have a fun, lively, creative class! I'm looking forward to helping your child experience the joy of learning.
