Description

Class Experience

In this 3 day camp, learners will cook 3 Asian recipes from start to finish. They will also learn some fun facts about Asia as well as the origins of the recipes they are cooking.  It will be a fun way to explore another country through cooking and fun facts. Learners will learn how to use a knife safely, how to work around a stove, how to use kitchen equipment like a food processor, and gain confidence in the kitchen.
I have been working as a kids enrichment teacher for the last 3 years.  I love teaching children and allowing them to create and think outside the box.  I have a 9-year-old son who is on the Autism Spectrum, so am a very patient and understanding teacher.  I realize all children learn differently and it is imperative to really listen to each child in order for them to feel secure and safe.
Day 1 Chicken Lettuce Wraps 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 pound ground chicken 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 onion, diced 1/4 cup hoisin sauce 2 tablespoons soy sauce 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger 1 tablespoon Sriracha, optional 1 (8-ounce) can whole water chestnuts, drained and diced 2 green onions, thinly sliced Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste 1 head butter lettuce cilantro (optional to garnish) stove knife spatula plate skillet tongs spoon Bowl cutting board Day 2- California or Veggie Roll Bamboo roller covered with plastic wrap 1 cup sushi rice ( Calrose rice- this is very important!) (please have it already cooked and ready for class) it is best to have the rice warm Bowl Tall cup of water Imitation crabmeat Mayonnaise Small pickling cucumber (Persian cucumber) Avocado Seaweed Sheets (Nori) Sesame seeds Sriracha (optional) Soy Sauce Day 3 Chicken Fried Rice 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper 1 chicken breast 5 tbsp butter sesame seeds (optional) 1/4 tsp Sesame Oil 1/2 tsp garlic powder 5 garlic cloves 1 onion 7 Cups cooked rice ( please make the night before- day-old rice is best for making fried rice) 4 tbsp soy sauce 1 1/2 cup frozen peas and carrots mix 2 eggs, slightly beaten wok or large skillet small skillet spatula spoon measuring spoons measuring cup cutting board Knife Large Bowl or plate
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Kids will learn safety around the stove and how to properly read and understand following a recipe while preparing a delicious meal that is guaranteed to impress. We will work on measurements, cooking terms, and why following directions while cooking is imperative. If you have a young learner, parent support may be needed at the stovetop work or with knives.
