Description

Class Experience

In this 3 day camp, learners will cook 3 different pasta dishes from start to finish. They will also learn some fun facts about the origins of the recipes they are cooking.  It will be a fun way to explore how one ingredient like pasta can be transformed by adjusting just a few other ingredients. They will also learn how to use kitchen tools like measuring cups and spoons, reading a recipe as well as knife and stove safety tips.
I have been working as a kids enrichment teacher for the last 3 years.  I love teaching children and allowing them to create and think outside the box.  I have a 9-year-old son who is on the Autism Spectrum, so am a very patient and understanding teacher.  I realize all children learn differently and it is imperative to really listen to each child in order for them to feel secure and safe.
Day 1 Macaroni and Cheese Day 2 Turkey Bolognese Day 3 Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo Day 1 Mac and Cheese 3 cups macaroni noodles 4 tbsp flour 1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard salt Olive oil 6 Tablespoons butter 3 cups cheddar, shredded Ladle and whisk Measuring spoon and cup Stockpot with water SKILLET Pasta strainer Day 2- Turkey Bolognese Olive oil 1 medium onion 2 garlic cloves coarse salt freshly ground pepper 1 pound ground turkey 1/4 cup tomato paste 1 can (28 ounces) whole peeled plum tomatoes with juice 4 tbsp Italian seasoning 1 box spaghetti bowl saute pan spatula knife stockpot water Pasta strainer Day 3- Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo ½ cup butter 1 box fettuccine 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese 2 teaspoons garlic powder 2 cups milk 6 ounces grated Parmesan cheese ⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper Salt to taste 2 tbsp olive oil 1 chicken breast skillet spatula spoon knife measuring cup measuring spoon stockpot water Pasta strainer
2 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Safety is the number one priority when in the kitchen.  The students will learn proper knife skills and how to safely handle and use a knife.  There will be times when we will be using the stove and it is imperative that the children are safe and have an adult nearby to oversee them during those times. I will be sure to go over how we work around a stove and proper safety measures when cooking on a stove. Also, please note any allergies your child may have from the ingredient list.
