Description

Class Experience

In this 3 day camp, learners will cook 3 Mexican inspired recipes from start to finish. They will also learn some fun facts about Mexico as well as the origins of the recipes they are cooking.  It will be a fun way to explore another country through cooking and fun facts. It's time to have a cooking fiesta!
I have been working as a kids enrichment teacher for the last 3 years.  I love teaching children and allowing them to create and think outside the box.  I have a 9-year-old son who is on the Autism Spectrum, so am a very patient and understanding teacher.  I realize all children learn differently and it is imperative to really listen to each child in order for them to feel secure and safe.
Day 1- Beef or Turkey Tacos 1 pound of turkey or beef Taco shells Lettuce Tomato Cheese Sour Cream (optional) Taco seasoning packet Avocado Skillet cilantro Spatula measuring cup Stove Spoon salt Day 2- Chicken Burritos 1 large flour tortilla 1 Chicken breast Refried Beans Sour Cream cheese lettuce 1 Avocado cilantro 1 onion 1 tomato tongs a taco seasoning packet Skillet 2 bowls 2 forks Spatula 1 Spoon Day 3 Nachos We will be making homemade tortilla chips for our nachos corn tortillas Vegetable oil cheese cilantro sour cream avocado tomato black olives green onion refried beans or pinto beans (whichever you prefer) skillet sheet pan oven stovetop tongs paper towels salt
2 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Safety is the number one priority when in the kitchen.  The students will learn proper knife skills and how to safely handle and use a knife.  There will be times when we will be using the stove and it is imperative that the children are safe and have an adult nearby to oversee them during those times. I will be sure to go over how we work around a stove and proper safety measures when cooking on a stove.
