In this class, students will create their own ancient clay pieces using a variety of tools and techniques including paddling and burnishing with a stone to experience how ancient cultures created pottery while learning about ancient cultures and their use of pottery. Each day, students will create an art piece using a variety of basic clay techniques including pinch, and coil. On the last day of class, students will paint their clay pieces using painting patterns and techniques from ancient cultures. Students are encouraged to engage with other students and the teacher, raise their hands when they have questions and share their progress and finished pieces with the class. Each class will be recorded and made available after each class for students to review lessons. Day 1: Clay Basket Day 2: Coil and Pinch Pot Day 3: Mud Animals Day 4: Paint Projects

Parental Guidance
Students will be using scissors to cut yarn. Please be aware that students may need assistance for their safety, if not comfortable with scissors. Some clay tools can be sharp, please look at them prior to class.

Day 1-3 2.5-5lbs of Air Dry Clay (Crayola has a great product) Clay tools or (sharp pencil, popsicle stick) Small dry sponge Rolling Pin Wooden Spoon (without slots or holes) Table Covering Cup with water Fluffy Yarn (around 1/4” thick) Scissors Polished rock or smooth stone (glass stones can also work) Day 4 Acrylic paint Pencil Paint brushes Cup with water Table covering Clay pieces from previous 3 weeks

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an illustrator, artist, teacher, business owner, and a pug mom. I have a degree in Illustration, a visual art minor with 20 years of teaching experience. I believe that knowledge is power and the more you know the greater your influence can be. Learning should be fun and individual. Even when my students are looking at the same picture for painting class, their work is very individual and unique to them and I love that part of the creative process. We are all learners and we should celebrate each other on the Journey!
