According to The American Psychological Association (APA), which periodically surveys for stress in the American public, teens have reported higher levels of stress than adults since 2013. In the 2018 APA survey, teens reported worse mental health and higher levels of anxiety than all other age groups. More than ever, our teens need strategies to help them regulate their anxieties to live happier, healthier lives. In this one-time class, learners will be taught and practice six discrete, anxiety-reducing strategies to relax the triggered, "emotional brain", and support them in returning to their "thinking brain." Learners will also learn variations of some of these skills. I will provide hand-outs for students to help them remember how to utilize and practice these skills on their own after they complete the class. The more practiced the brain is in these strategies, the easier it will be to use them when needed!
Learning Goals
Learners will learn relaxation skills to use when they are feeling anxious, worried, or scared, with in-class practice.
