Description
Class Experience
Students will learn: baton terminolgy basic baton moves (flat, vertical, passes, and tosses with both hands) memory skill by putting moves together into a routine
I competed in baton competitions, competed in both State and National competitions. I was the featured twirler at both my high school and at college (ISU). I have competed in many pageants with baton twirling as my talent and won the talent portion of Iowa's Jr. Miss while in high school. I have twirled flag, hoop, 2 baton, 3 baton, fire, cape, ribbon, sword, and light up batons.
Practice as needed outside of class to become proficient at each of the moves. Estimated 4 hours outside of class time.
A baton comfortable clothing your child can move in (shorts, t-shirt, etc) tennis shoes remove all jewelry and tie back long hair so they do not interfere with the baton twirling Note about batons: To properly measure your child for a baton, measure the length of their arm from under their armpit to the tips of their fingers. The baton should be the length of your child's arm. If your child is between sizes, go ahead and size up to the next size. Amazon has numerous batons for sale at various prices. Please do not use a plastic or play baton. Please contact me with any questions. I am happy to help!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
In order to have a safe twirling space, please locate a place in your home with about 5-10ft of open space for your student to twirl. An empty basement, garage, or driveway is ideal, but please ensure student will be able to hear on their computer if they choose to learn in an outdoor location. Please consider putting a cone or large trash can at the end of your driveway or garage opening, if your student will be twirling in a location where cars park or drive. If twirling indoors, please make sure that furniture is moved ahead of time if needed, and that there are no cords or any other tripping hazards in the dance area. Your student should be prepared for twirling before class starts by having the device set in a good spot that will allow me to see the twirler's body from head to knees so that I can provide feedback on movements, come dressed in comfortable clothes, wear tennis shoes, and have their baton and a water bottle nearby.
