This club builds on the basic techniques and fundamentals of calligraphy writing. See the syllabus for the outline of the weekly topics. It will be conducted live through the Zoom platform. In the first session, the students and teacher will introduce themselves to one another. Slides will be used for the introduction into the topic/ orientation to Zoom. All material will be explained and demonstrated step-by-step via an overhead camera video. Throughout the club, the student is expected to ask questions when he or she needs clarity. Students are also expected to remain quiet and respectful when the teacher is talking. Students are encouraged to interact with the teacher and with one another, creating an engaging experience. Lastly, there will be opportunities for students to show and talk about their work with the other students. ***In order to facilitate a safe and social learning experience and give children the opportunity to share artwork, the teacher will ask each student to keep on his/her camera throughout class.*** No experience with calligraphy is needed. Familiarity with calligraphy and knowledge of cursive are beneficial but not necessary. Materials: Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pens (2-Pack) *Recommended Purchase: Via Amazon (See the "External Resources"). Weekly Worksheets (2 PDFs -Worksheet for Week #1 and Combined Worksheet for Weeks #2/3- on Classroom Page under "Welcome Post". Printing in color highly recommended). Syllabus
3 Lessons
over 3 WeeksLesson 1:
Fundamentally Fun
In week 1, we will explore hard and soft-tipped brush pens, experiment with heavy vs. light pressure, and identify and practice the nine fundamental strokes. Afterwards, we will practice writing out a few letters, our names, and the word "hi".
40 mins online live lesson
Lesson 2:
Let's Learn the Alphabet!
In week 2, we will review the fundamental strokes and write out the lowercase alphabet. We will then write out and customize capital letters of our choice. Afterwards, we will differentiate between and practice "fun" and "basic" calligraphy.
40 mins online live lesson
Lesson 3:
Decals+Decorations
In this last lesson, we will learn 5 decals together and then design one on our own. We will then write out common card phrases, e.g. "Happy Birthday" and decorate them with decals. Using all the skills we learned, we will design a name card and take any extra time to doodle!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Calligraphy-Specific: Over the span of eight months, I taught several sections of this calligraphy club along with two one-time calligraphy classes on Outschool in 2020. In demonstrating calligraphy skills and techniques repeatedly, I gained valuable practice. Since then, I have been creating cards, quotes, and addressing envelopes using thick and thin calligraphy brush pens. Ultimately, my confidence and skills have progressed and strengthened. I continue to refine my technique and develop my own calligraphy style.
Experience with Children: I bring six years of experience working with children in various settings. More specifically, I worked as an Assistant Preschool/Pre-K Teacher at a daycare and an early childhood school for a total of two and a half years. I have also taught English to refugees (three months), assisted children with concurrent disabilities ( one year), and volunteered or worked at week-long summer camps (two locally, one abroad). At two of these summer camps, I co-led the arts station.
