Students will learn all about our natural satellite, the moon, including its’ phases and the answers to the following questions. When did the moon form and how old is it? How far away is the moon right now? Why does the moon cause tides? Time permitting, we will also discuss the lunar landing. Students will view notes and pictures on PowerPoints that complement the discussion. I invite the students to be active participants in the discussion. I use questions throughout the class to gauge understanding and foster student involvement. Students will be able to participate in activities at the end of the class.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to name all the phases of the moon. They will be able to discuss how we think the moon formed. Students will also learn how the moon is involved with the tides.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
UPDATE: I am taking a break from Outschool. After the spring semester of 2024 ends, I will take a hiatus.
I offer a variety of science and math classes. I have close to ten years of teaching experience. I've worked with students of all ages including young adults. I experience teaching in the classroom and teaching virtually. I have a B.A. from Louisiana State University.
I've helped tutoring student reach their goals whether it's to pass a standardized test or get a passing grade in a course.
I think that a basic understanding of science enhances one's life. It opens up a world hidden to most people. Studying science and math helps children to develop critical thinking skills that can be applied to all areas of life. My goal in all my classes is to inspire the students to study science. I want them to always ask questions and to stay curious.
Please reach out to me if you don't see a time that works for your child. I will try to be accommodating if it is possible.
When I am not teaching or prepping for classes, I enjoy crafting, reading, working out, and spending time with my dog.
"If you are scientifically literate the world looks very different to you. And that understanding empowers you." -Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson
**All classes are taught with an evolutionary perspective and according to Outschool's policies.**
