US Grade 4 - 5
This class is apart of a series of Chemistry classes geared to younger students. These classes are for those who have NOT yet been exposed to Algebra or do not have the math skills yet for high school chemistry. I will list below the suggested order of classes. You can also enroll your student in the course Chemistry Basics (younger) that will also cover the same material. This class is good for young students who are interested in starting their study of Chemistry early. In this class, students will learn about the atom. They will learn what an atom is and how it is structured. Students will also learn what the atomic theory is, and be able to discuss it with others. I do not like to assign homework. I will use websites like Quizlet, Kahoot, and Quizizz to help the students review the material. We will spend time in class discussing the material, and checking the students' understanding. The material created on the websites mentioned above will be available for students to access at any time to review concepts we covered in class. Suggested order of classes: Class 1: Defining Chemistry, properties of matter, physical vs chemical properties and changes Class 2: Atomic Structure and the atomic theory Class 3: Periodic Table Class 4: Electron Arrangement
Learning Goals
Students will be able to discuss what an atom is, and the atomic theory. Students will be able to identify the different parts of an atom and discuss each.
