Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Melissa and I am a certified elementary teacher with a degree in Elementary Education and a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I am currently teaching 5th grade math and science. I have been a teacher for 15 years. I have taught all subject areas; math, science, social studies, and language arts. I enjoy teaching all subjects. But I have a passion for helping kids love and understand math in a different way. You can be sure to find a math course available here and there as well as classes that allow us to have fun and shake off the academic blues.
My classroom will always be educational and FUN! Student voice is encouraged and supported. It is important that my learners feel valued and heard. Mistakes are welcomed and you will often hear me tell my students that “mistakes are how we learn.”
I enjoy connecting with my students and learning about their interests outside the classroom. You will often find me joking and laughing with my students. I have learned during my time as a teacher that my students can teach me just as much as I can teach them.
I love the beach and enjoy spending as much time outside as possible. I can't wait to meet your child and be a part of their learning!
💚 Ms. Melissa
CLASS EXPECTATIONS/MUTING:
Participation from learners enrolled is encouraged in my classes. I prefer to leave learners unmuted, but I also understand that there are instances where learners need to be muted due to background noise that cannot be avoided.
At the beginning of each class I will let all my new students know that I will only mute them if there is background noise that is distracting to myself as the the teacher, or the other students. They will also be made aware of my expectations. I ask that the students raise their hand in the classroom if another student is talking. Otherwise, as long as I am not speaking, my learners are free to ask questions.
REFUNDS & TRANSFERS:
Per Outschool's limited refund policy: "Full refund within 24 hours of purchase or up to a week in advance of the class."
RECORDINGS:
Recordings are not automatically shown in the classroom. I like to create a safe, open space for students to be themselves and want them to be as interactive as possible. If you would like access to the class recording or have missed class, feel free to message me so I can make it available to you. Teachers don't get notifications if recordings are requested from the classroom tab, so messaging me is best.
CLASS CANCELLATIONS:
If a class has not met the minimum number of enrollments, it is subject to being canceled. I will send a message asking if you'd like a transfer to another date & time or full refund if the class is canceled. Automatic refunds are issued for no responses after original class start time.
