In this fun and interactive California History class, young learners will embark on a time-traveling adventure, exploring pivotal events, influential figures, and the institutions that have shaped the Golden State. This class does not meet live. Learners receive a pre-recorded video and homework assignments each week. Learners can turn in assignments to receive feedback. Learners can expect a mix of readings, worksheets, projects, and activities to enhance learning.
Learning Goals
Students explain the economic, social, and political life in California from the
establishment of the Bear Flag Republic through the Mexican-American War, the Gold Rush, and the granting of statehood.
Students explain how California became an agricultural and industrial power,
tracing the transformation of the California economy and its political and cultural development since the 1850s.

Parental Guidance
Sensitive subjects such as the treatment of Indigenous peoples, immigrants, and African Americans will be discussed in this class. Also, while discussing wars, the number of deaths will be discussed. All discussions will be kept at an age-appropriate level.
Nearpod, Kahoot, Blooket, and Gimkit will be used as outside resources during class. A link will be provided and accounts are not needed for these resources.
