Come learn all about the Calgary Stampede, also known as the "Greatest Outdoor Show On Earth." During this class, and using fun slides, videos, Q&A, a yes/no menu activity, and a trivia quiz, you will become a Calgary Stampede expert answering questions such as: -What is the Calgary Stampede and what is it all about? -How did the Calgary Stampede come to be and what are some key historic moments? -How long has the Calgary Stampede been running? (Hint: It's a long time!) -What do the million...
Learners will end the class knowing what the Calgary Stampede is, how it came to be, and what the experience is like now.
I spent several years living in Calgary as a local and experiencing the Stampede firsthand as well as being a part of an organization that participated in the significant flood cleanup during the Stampede's 2013 year.
Teach your friends & family what you learned today!
-Learners should bring a piece of paper or white board to class that says YES on one side and NO on the other for our Menu activity. -It is suggested to bring a notebook/pen or a device to jot down key information to help you during the quiz at the end of class and so that you can teach your friends and family about the Calgary Stampede after class!
1 hour per week in class, and no time outside of class.
-Animal cruelty/welfare is discussed in the context of whether this takes place at the Calgary Stampede/what is done to prevent it. -In 2013, due to extensive flooding 2 weeks before the Calgary Stampede, the event took on "Hell or High Water" as their logo in an effort to boost local volunteer efforts to ensure the event did not get cancelled. (This is a common saying used to say that something will definitely happen or be done even though other events or situations might make it difficult, ex: I will be there on time, come hell or high water.) -Many of the food items on the Calgary Stampede Menu are "fear factor" style & learners who are easily grossed out may not enjoy this.
I have personally lived in Calgary, experienced the stampede, and was part of the groups which organized the flood efforts during the 2013 stampede. My husband provided over 200 volunteer hours of flood cleanup during this time. Content will come from personal experience, along with information directly provided from the board and the Calgary Stampede documentary. Content will also come from the businesses and volunteers that participate in the event and those that oversee it's standards.
