How many Sundays are in February? Which dates have 5 in the ones place? What day of the week is the 14th? Reading calendars and understanding how they work is an important life skill. As adults, we have spent years writing on calendars or in planners so that we go to appointments on the correct day. Why not teach your learner to keep track of his or her schedule now? Upon enrolling in this class I will provide a blank February calendar for you to print. Your learner will need to have it during class so that we can fill it out together. After introducing ourselves we will dive into learning about the calendar! We will talk about February, its season, holidays, birthdays, and anything else our learners would like to share about this month. Next, we will fill in the days of the week and dates, noting that some cultures begin a week on Sunday and others Monday. Then, we will practice math skills, such as computation, odd/even numbers, and problem solving -- all using our calendars! We will support each other to answer the questions if needed, and I am always willing to have my learners "become" the teacher and ask questions for classmates and me to answer too. This class will be offered every month, so feel free to sign up for particular months or every month of the year! While the format will be consistent from month to month, I will have different questions prepared to help your child dig deeper into calendars and math with each class.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to fill in and read a calendar and use it to answer math questions.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Mrs. Jen, and I am so excited you stopped by my classroom! I love working with children and have been certified to teach Pre-K through 6th grade. After several years of experience teaching in the elementary classroom I decided to stay home with my own children. During this time I have organized play groups with educational activities, volunteered in elementary school classrooms and the school library, and served as the communications director for our school PTO.
I have a BA in Spanish language and literature from Hanover College and a MAEd in elementary education from the College of William and Mary.
I believe that everyone is capable of learning. As a teacher I can help guide students so they can reach their potential and have a solid foundation for a lifetime of learning. I love that Outschool is giving me the flexibility to teach about the things I am most passionate!
During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family. We love to go camping, hike, bake treats, create science challenges, and read books together!
I look forward to helping your child learn something new!
