Have you ever wondered why calculus matters? This class answers that question as we discuss where calculus exists in the modern world, and in developing technology. This class briefly defines some fundamentals: derivative, integral, and vector. We then discuss some areas where calculus is used, and where it will be needed in the future. Some examples include: signal processing, 5G technology, power conversion, and controlling complicated systems. My training is as an electrical engineer, so many of the examples covered in the class are related to that field. The class structure is open; I engage with the students and respond to questions. Some familiarity with calculus terms (derivative, integral, vector, etc.) is helpful, but not required. This class is designed for students who will be taking calculus soon, are currently in a calculus class, or will take one soon. If you have wondered why any of what you hear in math class matters, or when you will ever use it again, this class is for you.
Learning Goals
