In this 7-week course, students will have the opportunity to build their word problem skills further by working through 1- and 2-step word problems involving ratios, fractions, and percentages.

In this course, students will build their word problem solving skills, continuing to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division--only now, these skills will be used with ratios, fractions, and percentages. Students should be competent with 1- and 2-step word problems and should be familiar with the four math operations. Each week, students will be provided with a Nearpod activity that will include lecture videos and interactive activities, explaining how to solve the types of two-step problems for the given week. Students will also be provided about 10 word problems to solve each week. At the end of each week, students will find real-world examples of that week's math operation and write a word problem about it. In the final week, students will share their word problems with each other and the teacher will assign the problems so that they can solve each other's word problems. The plan for the class will be as follows: Week 1: 1-Step Word Problems with Ratios Week 2: 2-Step Word Problems with Ratios Week 3: 1-Step Word Problems with Fractions Week 4: 2-Step Word Problems with Fractions Week 5: 1-Step Word Problems with Percentages Week 6: 2-Step Word Problems with Percentages Week 7: Group Project -- Solving Each Others Word Problems

I am a nuclear engineering graduate from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor's in Science. I began graduate school for a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, but due to health issues I decided to leave school and pursue my passions elsewhere--like here!
Thus, it may go without saying that a lot of classes I offer are math and science (particularly nuclear science) related.
