In this one-time course for teens, we will discuss the foods and drinks that Shakespeare used to convey specific feelings and subtext in his famous plays, how they were made, and how they compare to modern food!

US Grade 8 - 11
THIS CLASS IS FOR AGES 13+. Professional interpretations will be age-appropriate, so it is highly recommended that students be signed up for the appropriate class for their age. This class for ages 13+ will be rated PG-13. No prior experience with Shakespeare is required. Shakespeare used food and drink to convey information about the scene that we were watching. We will pull up a chair at Shakespeare's table and feast our imaginations on the food and drink from the Elizabethan period, then apply those to the context of scenes from "Twelfth Night," "Macbeth," "The Taming of the Shrew," and more! Example class covenant: -We welcome and affirm learners of all abilities and all walks of life. -We understand that our differences in opinion and learning style can lead to more dynamic learning. -We will not tolerate hate speech, bullying, and other negative behavior toward each other. -We will follow the classroom guidelines for Outschool that are there to keep us safe and geared toward learning. -We will manage risk so that our class can be fun, safe, and fascinating!

Students will recognize context and subtext and will learn historical foods and drinks.

I hold a BA in Performing and Visual Arts with a focus in Early British Drama and Shakespeare and have won several awards for my work in this field. I have spent over 20 years studying and producing the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
In my classes we use video, guests, and unconventional tools to learn the topic together.
