This class for ages 13+ will be rated PG-13. No prior experience with Shakespeare is required. Shakespeare used food and drink to convey information about the scene that we were watching. Students will recognize context and subtext and will learn historical foods and drinks.
I hold a BA in Performing and Visual Arts with a focus in Early British Drama and Shakespeare and have won several awards for my work in this field. I have spent over 20 years studying and producing the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries. In my classes we use video, guests, and unconventional tools to learn the topic together. I design all of my instruction around first creating a safe space, then doing what I call a "Sweep the Corners" review at the start of each session. At the completion of the course, we always Pack Up our learning and set off into our vast world!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This one-time class does not require assessment; however, it can be used on an acting resume for 13+ year old young actors.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Passages and meanings will be kept on the PG-13 level.
