>This class is Volume 4 and is 6 weeks long.< All cactus need full sun and not much water, right? Actually, that's not necessarily true. Each species requires their own special care for them to thrive in their environment and I can not wait to share my passion and knowledge on each one of them with you! Although this is an art class, we will take the learning a little further by creating a collage style notebook. Plant science and art coming together to create a beautiful keepsake of knowledge and art. All of the information for the cactus or succulent we will be discussing is provided in an attachment file that I created. This way learners will not have to write the information but instead design their own creative journal entry while we discuss the information. At the beginning of class I will guide the learners in developing a unique collage style journal entry on the cactus of the week. This will be packed with information, doodles and sketches to make it their own. After that, we will focus on creating a line drawing of the cactus using watercolor with ink details to bring it to life! Here is a list of cacti and succulents that we will focus on in this 6 week course. VOLUME 4: Week 1: Old Lady Cactus Week 2: Panda Plant Week 3: Coral Cactus Week 4: Sticks on Fire / Pencil Cactus Week 5: Sand Dollar Cactus Week 6: Burro's Tail Cactus *In my classes I love to dedicate the first few minutes to visiting as a class. If your learner is more comfortable using the chat box, then that’s perfect too! We will use both! I like how this sets the tone for our time together, helping those that might be a little nervous or new to virtual learning. It helps create that supportive and welcoming space to create. ***If you do not see a time that fits your schedule, please request a time that could work for you and I will try and create class for you!*

Supply List
For the journal: 1. Watercolor or mixed media paper spiral. We will not be painting in these, but the glue and pen marks do best with thicker paper. The two types below I have used and love. >Yitai Watercolor Spiral 9 X 12 on Amazon. Pack of 2 is $13.99 and its a hard cover which is nice! >or Canson Mixed Media Spiral 9 X 12 on Amazon. $7.97 2. Scissors 3. Glue Stick 4. Ultra Fine Sharpies for Doodling 5. *Optional - any color/pattern scrapbook paper for adding color to the journal For the art project: 6. Watercolor paper 9 X 12 (I will be cutting them in half so they can clip into our journal neatly.) 7. Watercolors 8. Paint Brush 9. Water cup 10. Paper towel 11. Uni-Ball UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel Pen - White (These are amazing at adding white spines and the cactus details) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KK6X7CW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 12. Fine detail black pen (Ultra fine black Sharpie or Micron are great!) Some kids have put all the journal entry information on one side of the journal and paint the cactus on the other side. This turns out great too! Just make sure if you paint in your journal - it’s made for paint - like a watercolor journal.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Kristi! I am a homeschool teacher and an art teacher in Texas! I have 2 children that are in 11th & 7th grade this next year! I absolutely love being involved in my kids education!
I am the owner of Wolf Circus Art Studio and Evolve Volleyball Club. I teach art classes for Pre-K to 6th grade, host art parties, teach macrame, and make pottery. I have been teaching art lessons for over 10 years and I love connecting with children through art! I have experience teaching lessons in a private art studio setting as well as summer camps and online.
I also am the Art & Crafts Director for a non-profit called Salute the Kids. Salute the Kids is a charity that supports military children and families through camping adventures. I create and teach all of the arts and crafts projects and host a family art night at camp. Working with military children is such a gift.
I am so excited to be here on Outschool with the opportunity to teach, connect, and create some really cool art with your artist! I most certainly know I will learn and be inspired by them as well!
When I am not teaching you can find me hanging out with my family, making pottery, playing volleyball, taking care of my cacti, or trying to talk my husband into rescuing another Chihuahua. You can never have too many Chihuahuas ;) I have 5 now!
Hope to see you in class!!
Mrs. Kristi
