Class Experience
All cactus need full sun and not much water, right? Actually, that's not necessarily true. Each species requires their own special care for them to thrive in their environment and I can not wait to share my passion and knowledge on each one of them with you! Although this is an art class, we will take the learning a little further by creating a collage style notebook. Plant science and art coming together to create a beautiful keepsake of knowledge and art. All of the information for the...
Learners will have detailed knowledge about each species we discuss. -Scientific name, native area, special features, bloom information, growth details, sun and water needs, the care needed for summer vs. winter, and more. -Watercolor blending techniques to create depth and darker shadows depending on where the light source in coming from. -Using ink to add fine details to our art work.
1 file available upon enrollmentFor the journal: 1. Watercolor or mixed media paper spiral. We will not be painting in these, but the glue and pen marks do best with thicker paper. The two types below I have used and love. >Yitai Watercolor Spiral 9 X 12 on Amazon. Pack of 2 is $13.99 and its a hard cover which is nice! >Canson Mixed Media Spiral 9 X 12 on Amazon. $7.97 2. Scissors 3. Glue Stick 4. Ultra Fine Sharpies for Doodling For the art project: 5. Watercolor paper 9 X 12 (I will be cutting them in half so they can clip into our journal neatly.) 6. Watercolors 7. Paint Brush 8. Water cup 9. Paper towel 10. Uni-Ball UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel Pen - White (These are amazing at adding white spines and the cactus details) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KK6X7CW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 11. Fine detail black pen (Ultra fine black Sharpie or Micron are great!)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Positive feedback goes such a long way with young artists’. After class, I encourage all learners to post a picture in our classroom of their final work of art! This gives all of the classmates and myself the opportunity to comment on each piece in hopes to connect and build a deeper sense of community. I know these positive interactions will help power them with more confidence into the next project they create!
1 hour per week in class, and no time outside of class.
We will be using scissors in class to cut out our journal entry for the week.
