In this 4-week course, students will learn how to play a variety of cooperative board games. “Co-op” games are ones where the players work together to try to beat the game rather than playing competitively against one another.

Board game sales have exploded in recent years, and there are articles coming out every day touting the social benefits of sitting around the table to engage in meaningful interaction with family and friends. One of the difficulties children often have with games and sports is learning how to be gracious in victory and in defeat. One way to address this is through cooperative or “co-op” games. Students will learn the difference between cooperative, competitive and semi-cooperative board games. Students will learn the rules and mechanics for at least four different cooperative board games. Students will practice techniques for teamwork and consensus-building.

None - Students do not need to have their own copy of the games. It is helpful if they bring a pair of standard 6-sided dice to class for some of the games.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be informally assessed and receive instructor feedback during gameplay. Self-assessment discussion will take place after each game.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
