Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will learn how amazing they already are, they will gain the skills to gain self esteem and strengthen their confidence.
I hold a Masters in Social Work (MSW), I have worked as a Social Worker in a girl's residential unit for over 4 years, my goal as their counselor was focused on assisting them in achieving their personal goals, learning life skills and building their self- confidence. I also have a daughter (she is an adult now), so I have personal experience raising a girl and as a girl myself I know how it feels to have the pressure to be perfect and struggle to try to fit in.
 2 files available upon enrollment
A one page supply list and the workbook is available for download. The workbook is 53 pages long, I would encourage printing double sided.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Please are to assist students prior to week 2 in finding 2 images in the media
1) positive self image
2) negative self image
If you need assistance, please reach out to me, images are not to be graphic. An example: positive - a girl studying , negative - a girl wearing heavy makeup at a young age

We also watch two videos in week 2:

The Reflection in Me

Girls ages 5-18 talk about "What Beauty Means to Them" by Allure

Please note for peer pressure we do not talk about any sensitive topics - any brought up by students they will be muted and parents notified. Our goal for peer pressure is to discuss light topics such as : cheating on homework, being mean to others. Students will learn short statements to say no such as :That's dumb. No, get away. They will also learn to come up with their own NO statements. This section is to encourage them to be strong and not fall into peer pressure.
