Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Students are learning math differently than how their parents learned and sometimes that is challenging for parents to help their students learn math strategies. This 8 part class, meeting twice a week for four weeks, is focused on learning multiple multi-digit multiplication methods. Learning multiple methods, rooted in number sense, allows students to build multiplication fluency and their confidence.

Each class we will focus on a different multiplication concept. The first week is focused on reviewing the concept of multiplication, multiplication facts, and 1x1 digit multiplication. This will build students' confidence and prepare them for multi-digit multiplication. In week 2, we will focus on the Area Model Method. In week 3, we will focus on the Partial Products Method. In the final week, we will review the prior weeks and play multiplication games!

These math lessons will be taught live by the teacher. Throughout there will be opportunities to work with manipulatives to help solidify understanding, time for guided practice then independent practice, and of course time to interact with the teacher and peers. Questions and discussion are welcome! Additional math concepts that will be incorporated include place value, factor and product vocabulary, adding multi-digit numbers, and area of a rectangle. Please sign up for this class now to learn with me and have some fun with math!

Welcome learners and families!

I love teaching elementary math and science, which I have over 10 years of experience doing. I enjoy challenging myself to break down harder-to-understand math concepts into ways that students find relatable and engaging.

Professionally, I have been a public school teacher for over 8 years. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech. I have a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education, from George Mason University. I also hold a valid Elementary Education professional teaching license in Virginia. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher (generalist, middle childhood).

In my free time, I enjoy baking, going on walks with my rescue pup, Tuula, and traveling. So far, I have traveled to 30 countries, even teaching in Uganda and Ukraine!
