This course engages learners in opportunities to think and reason with numbers as they advance their number sense and problem-solving skills. They will learn to be flexible with numbers, to break numbers apart and put them together, to get a sense of a quantity of items (estimate), evaluate if they've over-estimated or under-estimated, compare quantities, and learn strategies for solving real-world math problems. There are 10 distinct lessons and then I will cycle back through the lessons in...
Over the course of 10 sessions, the students will develop a deeper sense of how to work with numbers. They'll be working with numbers flexibly. They'll feel confident estimating and evaluating their estimates. They'll walk away knowing how numbers and operations (+, -, x, / ) with numbers work, and they'll acquire a tool belt of math problem-solving skills.
No required homework, but optional problem sets will be provided with an answer key.
40 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
