US Grade Kindergarten - 4
We will be using Legos to build numbers, add, subtract, multiply and divide them (as ability allows), too! It is essential that students know and understand numbers, what they mean and how place value is used to build numbers. Once students understand numbers, they can then put them together and take them apart. We call the putting together and taking apart of numbers adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing. I will help students build or rebuild their foundation so that they are ready to move to the next math steps with confidence. Since our session topics are learner-directed, and this class is about meeting you where you are at and building from that foundation, each week will look a little differently, and the starting point may not be the same for any two people. Please bring a box of Legos (at least 100 single pegs/dots and at least one 10"x10" Lego baseplate to each session.
Learning Goals
Our sessions will focus first on number sense and understanding the value of each number 1-10. we will then move to place value and what that means to each number. When these foundations are in place, we can move to the adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing of numbers.
