US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this course, we will learn about a variety of study techniques that will enable your student to learn any subject independently. These include (but are not limited to) the following: - block scheduling for time management - attainable goal setting - concentration - revision of notes, - T charts for note taking - active questioning and reciprocal elaboration - techniques to teach others - active recall cues Students will engage in conversation and practice throughout this course to apply these techniques, and conduct a self-assessment to figure out which techniques work best for them. We will also discuss mental rest and basic self-care for those busy times in life (like studying for finals!). Students need no prior knowledge for this course, just a curiosity for learning! This course was designed because in a world where online learning is becoming more popular, and as students move towards college/ vocational school, they require the ability to independently study. Without a teacher to check your learning, how can you be sure that you have learned a new subject properly?
Learning Goals
Students will learn a variety of study techniques, and identify at least 3 that work well for them. They will be able to apply these techniques to a variety of subjects and discuss the ways in which they best learn.

I have gone through more than a decade of schooling myself since my own high school graduation, from community college to now earning my PhD. I have attended school online and in person, and I have counseled high school students in building independent study techniques for years. I have found that when a student is confident in their own learning abilities, they are confident in all aspects of their lives!
