Hello again Parents and Students ! This class is being created in response to a growing demand among parents who want to help their students build their confidence in Middle School Math - or perhaps regain their confidence in Math after some incident. ________________________________________ Goals of Sessions The class will serve as a 1-1 study hall in which we will use current Math assignments students have to guide the sessions. The goal of the sessions will be to build student confidence in their Math abilities as part of becoming the best version of themselves ! ________________________________________ Example Topics and Themes Here are some example of modules and lessons that will be covered within the context of Middle School Math: Module 1: Basic Arithmetic Lesson 1: Introduction to Numbers • Concepts: Place value, number lines, and comparing numbers. • Examples: Demonstrations of number comparisons and placements. Lesson 2: Addition and Subtraction • Concepts: Techniques for adding and subtracting whole numbers, including regrouping. • Examples: Step-by-step solutions for practice problems. Lesson 3: Multiplication and Division • Concepts: Multiplication tables, long multiplication, division with and without remainders. • Examples: Practice problems and real-life applications. Lesson 4: Mixed Operations • Concepts: Solving problems that involve multiple operations, order of operations (PEMDAS/BODMAS). • Examples: Multi-step problems and strategies for solving them. Module 2: Fractions and Decimals Lesson 1: Understanding Fractions • Concepts: Parts of a whole, equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions. • Examples: Visual aids and practice problems. Lesson 2: Adding and Subtracting Fractions • Concepts: Finding common denominators, performing operations with fractions. • Examples: Worked examples and exercises. Lesson 3: Multiplying and Dividing Fractions • Concepts: Multiplying fractions, dividing fractions, and real-life applications. • Examples: Detailed explanations and practice questions. Lesson 4: Introduction to Decimals • Concepts: Place value in decimals, converting between fractions and decimals. • Examples: Practice problems and visual representations. Module 3: Ratios and Proportions Lesson 1: Understanding Ratios • Concepts: Defining ratios, equivalent ratios, and using ratios in real-world problems. • Examples: Exercises and practical applications. Lesson 2: Solving Proportions • Concepts: Setting up and solving proportions, cross-multiplication. • Examples: Practice problems and step-by-step solutions. Module 4: Basic Algebra Lesson 1: Introduction to Algebraic Expressions • Concepts: Variables, constants, and coefficients; writing and simplifying expressions. • Examples: Practice simplifying and evaluating expressions. Lesson 2: Solving Simple Equations • Concepts: Solving one-step and two-step equations, understanding equality. • Examples: Worked examples and practice exercises. Lesson 3: Introduction to Inequalities • Concepts: Understanding and solving basic inequalities. • Examples: Practice problems and graphical representations. Lesson 2: Perimeter and Area • Concepts: Calculating perimeter and area of basic shapes. • Examples: Step-by-step solutions and practice problems. Lesson 3: Introduction to Volume • Concepts: Understanding volume for cubes and rectangular prisms. • Examples: Practice problems and real-world applications. Module 6: Data Analysis and Probability Lesson 1: Collecting and Organizing Data • Concepts: Reading and creating charts, tables, and graphs. • Examples: Interactive exercises with data representation. Lesson 2: Basic Probability • Concepts: Understanding basic probability, simple experiments, and outcomes. • Examples: Practice problems and real-life scenarios. ________________________________________ Teaching Style As an educator I have over 20 years of teaching and tutoring students from around the world. My teaching has been described by administrators as a coaching style. Part of that comes from my encouraging approach to working with students and the desire to see students win ! I create a safe and comfortable learning environment in which all students are seen and heard with the foundational belief that all students are capable !
