Have fun being bold! Public speaking requires us to create and deliver messages in multiple arenas of life, such as conversations, interviews, and presentations. No experience necessary. We will enjoy fun, skill building games to help everyone feel comfortable with the learning process. We will also build friendships through working together, and overall self confidence for speaking in a variety of contexts. Syllabus: Session 1: Introduction -Class Norms -Define objectives of public speaking and how it relates to student’s lives Skill Building -Theatre games and exercises, with a focus on breath support, voice modulation, and projection Session 2: Skill Building -Theatre Games and exercises, with a focus on non-verbal communication Delivery Style: Persuasive -Create an advertisement and deliver with confidence -Reflections Session 3: Skill Building -Theatre Games and exercises, with a focus on improvisation, expression, and style Delivery Style: Manuscript -Interview one another and create written introductions -Perform by reading word for word, focus on projection, speaking clearly, and posture -Reflections Session 4: Skill Building -Theatre Games and exercises, with a focus on speaking confidently while thinking on our feet, strengthening fluency and improvising around mistakes Delivery Style: Improvisatory -Storytelling and intention -Reflections/Working through mistakes Session 5: Skill Building: -Theatre Games and exercises Delivery Style: Informative Extemporaneous speeches -Narrative and How-To Speech creation and delivery -Defining our point of view and knowing our audience -Reflections
Learning Goals
Students will learn to focus their thinking and speak with clarity, assertion, and confidence.

Teacher expertise and credentials
This course is informed by my training in the arts, and my experience as an educator. I currently work as a teacher in a classroom, (and online). In the past, I have travelled the world as a singer and songwriter, and spoken as a panelist at various music conferences. I've conducted interviews with major label artists for various media outlets. Since 2007, I have produced and hosted my own radio show and podcast.
I have worked in schools teaching Public Speaking. With our virtual presence required more and more, I am excited to bring this course online.
