This is a conversation-based class that is intended to help the shy preteen and teen grow more confident in their ability to engage with others. No prior experience is needed. :) Everything we will be discussing will be provided on a PowerPoint. I will start by introducing myself and then having the students introduce themselves using a guided introduction. Then I will briefly introduce the focus area of eye contact and good posture, which will be discussed as a group. We will then practice...
As a soft-spoken person who has had to work on my enunciation, confidence, posture, and speaking volume when I am engaging with others, I am excited to share what I have learned from my life experience with your student. My goal will be to have learners emerge from this class more confident in their ability to engage with others and to know that how they present themselves to others is important. I believe it is okay to act confident even if you do not feel confident. I want learners to understand the importance of eye contact, good posture, and being fully present when they are talking to another person. Your student will come away from this course with the knowledge that they are worth the effort it takes to maintain eye contact and good posture when conversing with others.
I will keep all discussion content age-appropriate and relatively light. If the student does bring up a topic that is concerning to me, I will notify Outschool and the parents immediately following the class (or during the class in an emergency situation).
Homework will be optional, but I encourage students to practice the skills we have learned outside of class.
1 file available upon enrollmentPlease have the student have in front of them (a printed copy is preferred) the list of conversation starters (please see the attached document).
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
- Speaking Lesson on Posture & Movement: “The Seven Sins of Speaking” by Secondary Sara
There will be a brief question and answer time at the end of class to review what we have learned, but answering is optional.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Please have the student have in front of them (a printed copy is preferred) the list of conversation starters (see the attached document). Thank you! :)
