What's included
Class Experience
In this 4-week FLEXIBLE class, learners will dive deep into learning about animal life cycles! We'll learn about animals who have distinct stages compared to ones that mature as they grow. Once your learner becomes an "expert" at their choice of animal class, they'll take what they know to design their very own Pokemon with 4 life cycle stages. Learners will have to consider food, habitat, skin, and behavioral features of their chosen class of Pokemon when designing their creature. New content will be posted each Monday by 9am EST. Typical content will include a 20-30 minute video where learners will be encouraged to click "pause" to complete embedded assignments. A full unit organizer packet will be available upon enrollment in the course. Further, links to additional learning and understanding will be provided right on the class page when necessary. Learners will also have the opportunity to post their thoughts and progress to the class page, and interact and provide feedback to others in the course. As the instructor, I will also leave personalized feedback to posts weekly! This project-based learning course is designed with a low floor and high ceiling, meaning that all students, regardless of ability, should have an access point and also an opportunity for additional rigor. After consuming tons of new knowledge through articles and videos, their final project will be to create actual Pokemon cards. See below for a detailed outline of individual classes. Week 1: History of Pokemon -Where and how did Pokemon begin? -What are Pokemon? -How are Pokemon similar to animals? -What is a life cycle? Week 2: Types of Life Cycles and Animals -What are the two types of life cycles? -What are the 5 classifications of animals? -What characteristics do certain classifications of animals have? -Which type of animal am I most interested in? Week 3: Deep Dive into Chosen Classification -How do animals within my chosen classification grow? -Where do animals within my chosen classification live? -What do animals within my chosen classification eat? -What should I include when designing my Pokemon? Week 4: Pokemon GO! -What should the 4 stages of my Pokemon be? -How can I make my Pokemon similar to my chosen animal classification? -How will my Pokemon change as it grows? -What powers would make sense for my Pokemon to develop? -How can I celebrate my creation with others?
